At LAES-2, the reactor core is being poured: the shaft for the VVER-1200 will rise by 34 meters

The first five tiers will go up 9 m in three months, radiation and temperature sensors will be installed inside

Construction of the reactor shaft has begun at the fourth power unit of Leningrad NPP-2 (LAES-2). According to Rosatom, in the next three months, builders will erect the first five tiers with a total height of more than nine meters.

The total height of the structure will exceed 34 meters — it is a vertical reinforced concrete shell that will form the basis for the nuclear installation.

Inside the shaft, the reactor itself, safety system equipment, measuring channels, and sensors controlling radiation levels, air temperature, and the condition of concrete and metal will be installed. In the next stages, construction and installation work will proceed simultaneously: while new tiers are being erected, equipment will already be brought inside.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that workers had begun assembling the dry shield block (a steel cylindrical structure filled with heat-resistant serpentinite concrete), which will surround the VVER-1200 reactor vessel at power unit No. 3.
