The environmental damage to the Luga River from the semi-submerged oil skimmer tanker "Liya" at the Ust-Luga Shipyard pier exceeded 103 million rubles. The North-Western Department of Rosprirodnadzor sent a demand to "Perevalochno-Barzhingovaya Kompaniya" (OOO "PBK") for compensation for the damage. This was reported by the press service of the supervisory body.
During the inspection, inspectors found that no one was monitoring the condition of the tanker. There is no berthing agreement, and communication with the owners is not maintained.
Specialists used an underwater drone to survey the "Liya". It turned out that the vessel's hull was severely deformed and corroded.
The tanker not only harms the river's ecology but also hinders the use of the pier. Rospotrebnadzor insists on voluntary compensation for the damage. Otherwise, the agency threatened to sue "Perevalochno-Barzhingovaya Kompaniya".
Ust-Luga is the largest universal port in the Baltic and the second largest in Russia. OOO "PBK" operates in one of its terminals and provides bunkering services (fuel and motor oil refueling) for vessels.
