Underwater Fiber Optic Cable Plant worth 1.2 Billion Rubles Launched in Primorye with State Support

The enterprise will produce cable for the Arctic and the Far East

Inkab Group has opened the final production site for underwater fiber optic cable in Primorsky Krai. Total investments in the project amounted to approximately 1.2 billion rubles. Of these, 454 million in the form of a preferential loan was provided by the federal Industrial Development Fund, the FRP told "Pervy Tekhnichesky".

The funds were directed to equip the Primorye enterprise. This is the second part of a full-cycle interregional project. The first site in Perm produces the optical core. It is sent to Primorye, where it is used to manufacture finished underwater cable and shipped directly to cable-laying vessels.

The underwater fiber optic cable is designed to operate at depths of up to 4 kilometers. The multi-layer design ensures a service life of 25 years, and the cable itself accommodates up to 96 fibers. The level of production localization reaches 92 percent. The company purchases raw materials mainly from domestic suppliers.

At full capacity, both sites will produce more than 2.5 thousand kilometers of cable per year. The length of one product can reach 50 kilometers – this corresponds to world standards and reduces laying times. This is especially important for Arctic sections, where the navigation window is limited to 4–5 months a year.

Underwater fiber optic lines will provide high-speed communication to the population, enterprises, and government agencies in the Far North and the Far East. They will also meet the needs of northern deliveries, geological exploration, and create infrastructure for communication technologies, including 5G, in remote areas.
