The Moskvich automobile plant at SPIEF-2026 officially confirmed plans to release its first hybrid car under its own brand. As Elena Frolova, the plant's CEO, told "Kommersant", the new model will appear in 2027 and will belong to the "mass-premium" segment, where Haval and Geely already operate. Other details, including the type of hybrid scheme and platform, have not yet been disclosed by the plant.
There are no additional details about the upcoming new product yet. It is likely that the hybrid "Moskvich" will be created based on a model from the SAIC concern, with which the brand currently cooperates.
Technically, the bet on a hybrid is justified: unlike a pure electric car, a hybrid system is equipped with a smaller capacity battery, which keeps the price down. At the same time, the internal combustion engine removes the main limitation of an electric car – dependence on charging infrastructure. Frolova explained that the battery "costs money," but in a hybrid, its cost is not exorbitant, and the balance of price and capabilities makes the car more versatile. The cheapest hybrid on the market now is the Evolute i-Space for 3.5 million rubles, but the "Moskvich" will be more expensive.
According to "Autostat", hybrid sales in Russia for the first four months of 2026 soared by 2.3 times, to 19.6 thousand units, occupying more than 5% of the market. At the same time, sales of "Moskvich" itself fell by a quarter in the first quarter. Thus, the hybrid becomes not an experiment for the plant, but an attempt to jump into a growing segment and compensate for the decline in demand for the current lineup.
