Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, announced the release of an official application for Apple Watch – four years after the previous client was removed from the App Store. Unlike the previous version, which was limited to notifications and quick replies, the new application is a full-fledged messenger that works on the watch without the need to constantly refer to the iPhone.
Telegram for Apple Watch allows users to read and send text messages, record and listen to voice messages, view video messages, use stickers, and follow channels. The function of sending one's geolocation to the interlocutor is also available. Installation requires watchOS 26 or newer, as well as the current version of Telegram on the smartphone. The application can be downloaded both through the Watch app on the iPhone and directly from the App Store on the watch.
Previously, the original Apple Watch app was removed in 2022, and previous versions of the watches were limited to working with notifications only. Now, the functionality has been expanded to the level of a standalone client capable of receiving and transmitting information independently of the phone.
The release of the new Apple Watch app follows the recent launch of Telegram for Samsung smartwatches.
