The United Shipbuilding Corporation presented the project of the non-nuclear submarine "Amur 1650" with vertical launch systems and an air-independent propulsion system at the International Maritime Defense Show "Flot-2026". The development was carried out by specialists of the Rubin Design Bureau, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" was informed by the OSK press service.
"Amur 1650" has one of the largest ammunition loads among non-nuclear submarines in the world – up to 28 units of weapons. The submarine can be equipped with Club-S cruise missiles or Russian-Indian supersonic BrahMos missiles. The project provides for high adaptability: it is possible to integrate customer equipment. The missile arsenal is capable of hitting both ground and surface targets.
Vertical launch systems expand the combat capabilities of the project, turning a non-nuclear submarine into a universal center for conducting combat operations at sea. "Amur 1650" is distinguished by high stealth. Low visibility is ensured by a wide range of acoustic protection means, hull lines, and equipment with reduced noise. Advanced electronic warfare makes the submarine indispensable for reconnaissance and surveillance. The sonar complex guarantees a long range of target detection. The effectiveness of these solutions has been confirmed by tests of Project 677 submarines, nicknamed "Stealths".
"Amur 1650" with VLS and AIP is capable of operating for 60 days in open ocean and shallow water conditions, even in the presence of anti-submarine defense. The submarine's displacement is about three thousand tons, the crew is 42 people. The presentation of the project at "Flot-2026" demonstrates the export potential of Russian non-nuclear submarine shipbuilding.
