QR instead of phone number: VTB launched transfers between individuals via SBP

The recipient can generate a code in the application and send it to the sender

VTB has added a new way to transfer money between individuals via SBP in its mobile application. Now, a client can generate a personal QR code, specify the amount if necessary, and send it to another person. The sender only needs to scan the code and confirm the operation – there is no need to enter a phone number, details, or select the recipient's bank.

The service was developed by NSPK with the participation of VTB and works as an alternative to traditional phone number transfers. The QR code can be used for personal settlements: returning a debt, splitting a bill in a cafe, paying for a tutor's or courier's service, as well as collecting money for a gift, holiday, or charity.

QR code transfers between individuals are another step towards a seamless payment environment. Now there is no need to dictate or enter a phone number – just generate a code and send it to the sender.

The recipient can specify a fixed amount or leave it to the sender's discretion. A payment link is also available instead of a QR code, which is convenient to send in messengers and other digital channels. If desired, the user can hide their phone number, which adds an element of privacy to the service.

An important advantage of the service is its interbank nature: the solution is not limited to the infrastructure of one bank and allows clients of different credit organizations to quickly and conveniently transfer funds to each other.
Lidia Klyukina, Director of Innovative Products and Services Department, NSPK

No commission is charged for such transfers within the monthly free SBP limit. The service is available to VTB Online users, and clients of banks connected to the NSPK solution will be able to receive and send money.
