Armenia wants to buy new Su-30SM from Russia after agreement on modernization of old fighters with India

The former head of the republic's Ministry of Defense called Russian combat aircraft the best choice

Armenia should continue to purchase Su-30SM fighters from Russia. This was stated by the country's former Minister of Defense, Davit Tonoyan.

According to him, all necessary missiles for these fighters have already been acquired.

Tonoyan recalled that during his tenure as minister, Yerevan acquired four such aircraft from the Russian Federation, which he still considers the best choice for the Armenian Armed Forces.

However, Armenia does not want to modernize combat vehicles at Russian facilities and signed a contract with India. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has experience in upgrading the Su-30.

In 2019, Armenia purchased four Su-30SM units from Russia. The deal was estimated at $120 million, which is significantly cheaper than usual export prices.
