Oncovaccine will not replace surgery and chemotherapy: FMBA explained its role

The vaccine for colorectal cancer is considered only as an additional treatment method

The FMBA oncovaccine for colorectal cancer will not replace existing treatment methods. It does not cancel surgery, chemotherapy, and other types of immunotherapy, but can only be used as additional support. This was stated by the head of the FMBA, Veronika Skvortsova.

According to her, the new drug cannot be considered a panacea. Currently, cancer treatment already uses methods that have proven their effectiveness, and it is impossible to abandon them due to the appearance of an oncovaccine.

Skvortsova emphasized that the vaccine cannot replace surgical intervention. Nor will it replace quality chemotherapy.

At the same time, as tests have shown, the oncovaccine reduces tumor volume by 60-80% and slows its development. This was tested on a model of intestinal adenocarcinoma. In some animals, the tumor even regressed.
