Passenger supersonic travel does not appear economically viable for airlines in the near future. This conclusion was voiced by the head of the state corporation Rostec, Sergey Chemezov.
According to him, carriers are unlikely to show interest in purchasing such aircraft due to their questionable commercial efficiency.
Today, I think such an aircraft is not entirely economically viable, and airlines are unlikely to buy it. Therefore, there is no point in making it.
At the same time, the head of Rostec noted that the company expects to develop its own long-haul aircraft in the future. For such a project, the promising PD-35 aircraft engine is already being developed, which is considered as a power plant for new-generation liners.
Rostec head Sergey Chemezov also stated that the company intends to create a new aircraft engine that will develop thrust of about 10 tons and be intended for business aviation.
