Rostec Aims to Create a 10-ton Thrust Aircraft Engine for Business Jets

The new unit could become the basis for future promising Russian light aircraft

Russia plans to develop a new aircraft engine with a thrust of about 10 tons for business aviation aircraft. The head of the Rostec state corporation, Sergey Chemezov, announced the promising project during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026.

According to him, Rostec is considering creating a power unit of this class for use on promising business aviation aircraft in the future. Details of the project, development timelines, and possible engine characteristics have not yet been disclosed.

The appearance of a domestic engine in the business aviation segment could be an important step for expanding the range of Russian aircraft power units. Today, engines with a similar thrust level are used on medium and large-class jet business jets, capable of performing long-haul flights and carrying a significant number of passengers.

The development of a 10-ton thrust engine will require the application of modern aerodynamic technologies, heat-resistant materials, and digital control systems. Of particular importance are increasing fuel efficiency, reducing operating costs, and complying with modern environmental requirements of the aviation industry.
