Russians offered to pay with digital rubles at retail outlets

The commission for such operations has been canceled until the end of 2026

In Russia, some retail outlets have started accepting payments in digital rubles using VTB payment terminals. By September, this payment method will be made available nationwide. This was announced by Denis Bortnikov, Deputy Chairman of the VTB Management Board, on the sidelines of the SPIEF.

Entrepreneurs do not need to integrate with the Bank of Russia platform; the bank handles all technical processes and provides ready-made services.

Funds are credited to the company's account instantly. This will help avoid cash gaps and direct revenue into circulation, Bortnikov added.

According to him, accepting payments in digital rubles will help sellers save money. Until the end of 2026, such operations will not be subject to commission. The proceeds can be directed to business development, Bortnikov emphasized.

At the same time, retail outlets do not need to change terminals. To serve customers with digital wallets, it is enough to open an account in digital rubles, explained the VTB top manager.

The digital ruble is the third form of the national currency. Its mass launch is scheduled for September 1, 2026.
