Russian ship repair enterprises are increasingly losing out to foreign shipyards in terms of deadlines, costs, and technological capabilities. This was stated by Dmitry Bubnov, Technical Director of Magadanryba Group of Companies.
According to him, most fishing vessels today are sent for repair abroad, as foreign enterprises work faster and often cheaper than Russian ones.
If in China it's a matter of a couple of days, in Russia you sometimes have to wait several weeks, or even a month.
He named outdated infrastructure as one of the main problems. Many factories use equipment from Soviet times, and enterprises cannot afford new machine tools on their own.
Situations are already arising where there are simply no suitable machine tools or specialists to manufacture the necessary part.
New equipment needs to be purchased. But the enterprises that still exist will not be able to handle this on their own.
Without large-scale state support, Russian ship repair will continue to lose customers. One of the proposed options is to modernize at least one large plant in the Far East with the installation of modern machine tools and the creation of a full-fledged production cluster.
Ship repair enterprises in the region have already faced a growing outflow of orders to China. Many enterprises are underloaded with orders by about 50%.
