The operating systems of iPhone and Android today provide roughly the same level of security, but Android has an important advantage in the ability to install third-party security solutions. This was stated by Igor Kuznetsov, Director of the Global Research and Analysis Center at Kaspersky Lab.
According to the expert, modern versions of iOS and Android use similar approaches to security. Both platforms run browsers and applications created using the same security technologies, so there is no significant difference in the basic level of protection between them.
At the same time, Kuznetsov drew attention to an important difference in ecosystems. He explained that the Apple platform remains closed to the installation of full-fledged third-party antiviruses, while owners of Android devices can use additional protection tools.
The expert noted that these solutions are especially important in countering complex targeted cyberattacks. According to him, it is impossible to completely eliminate the risk of device compromise by standard operating system tools. In such situations, additional security software helps to timely detect signs of a breach and track the incident after it occurs.
