Another overhauled and modernized A-50U airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft has been handed over to the Russian Aerospace Forces. This was reported by former military pilot and author of the Fighterbomber blog.
It should be noted that after modernization, the A-50U received new electronics with high performance and speed, which allowed for an increase in the capabilities of the functional software.
The aircraft received new high-resolution LCD monitors, which improved the efficiency of the radar situation display system. The A-50U also received a modernized flight and navigation complex.
The total number of A-50U aircraft in service is unknown. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev in 2025 spoke of at least eight aircraft.
