India to upgrade hundreds of Su-30MKI and prepares 5th generation fighter without Russia

The Indian Ministry of Defence has announced a tender for the installation of global positioning systems

India will carry out a large-scale upgrade of Su-30MKI fighters to expand their combat capabilities and increase their range. They will be equipped with modern global positioning systems with support for multiple satellite constellations, The Times of India reported.

The system must operate across the entire flight envelope of the Su-30MKI, functioning at altitudes up to 21 km, at speeds up to Mach 1.5, and with overloads from –2g to 9g.

In total, 300 antenna systems, as well as 50 field testers and 10 base testers, must be supplied. The entire project must be completed within 24 months from the date of contract signing.

The Indian Ministry of Defence has also sent requests to three shortlisted participants for the program to create a domestic fifth-generation fighter. Russia is not on this list.
