"Sollers" sold 20% in Ulyanovsk stamping plant to Chinese in exchange for technology

JF Mould will gain access to orders and future profits, while the Russian automaker will gain competencies in stamping

Automaker "Sollers" sold 20% in OOO "Shtampovye Tekhnologii" to the Chinese company JF Mould (Hefei Hualong Mould Co. Ltd), which specializes in the production of molds for the automotive industry, Kommersant reports, citing data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. The deal has already been completed.

"Shtampovye Tekhnologii" is an enterprise in Ulyanovsk at the UAZ site, which will produce large body parts and frames for Sollers pickups and SUVs. The capacity of the automated press line is 800 thousand stamping operations per year. Currently, the site is operating in test mode, with serial production scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.

"Sollers" confirmed the completion of the deal. According to company representatives, attracting a partner will strengthen competencies in stamping and implement best industry practices. The Chinese side has many years of expertise in managing stamping production and technologies. Details of the deal are not disclosed.

"Shtampovye Tekhnologii" has no significant assets, so the 20% was acquired not for an existing business, but for the right to participate in a future project. For JF Mould, the key income will be formed not by the share, but by the supply of technologies, equipment, and services. According to analysts, the scheme represents a classic exchange of "technology in exchange for a share plus dividends," known from joint ventures of the 1990s-2000s, but now in a mirror image: Russia receives technology, and China receives a market share.

For "Sollers," the partnership is a way to attract competencies in stamping production, on which the competitiveness of products depends. The plant stamps doors, hoods, fenders, and other components.

Stamping of body parts for Sollers cars was established in 2025 in Yelabuga for light commercial vehicles. The Ulyanovsk site is focused on pickups and SUVs, and in the future, on UAZ. According to "Autostat," sales of new Sollers cars in the first quarter of 2026 decreased by 23 percent compared to last year, to 1.7 thousand units. Almost 44 percent accounted for light commercial vehicles, about 32 percent for pickups.
