RKK "Energia" plans lunar exploration and flights to Mars

Details of the corporation's 2025 report have been revealed

Rocket and Space Corporation "Energia" in its 2025 report outlined strategic goals: creating a technological foundation for flights to Mars and asteroids, lunar exploration, and the deployment of the Russian Orbital Station.

The same report states that during 2025, specialists developed design options for the airlock module and elements of a lunar base. The crewed complex for lunar flight is planned to be created based on existing and developing launch vehicles – DM, KVTK, "Fregat" upper stages – with launches from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

The feasibility of a lunar lander-ascender vehicle was assessed, which should consolidate industry enterprises and become a driver for the development of human resources and scientific and technical potential.

The foundation for these plans is shaky. In August 2025, RKK "Energia" CEO Igor Maltsev, in an address to employees, publicly acknowledged the critical state of the enterprise for the first time. He spoke of "multi-million dollar debts" and that "all deadlines have been missed."
