Russian "Kinzhal", "Zircon" and "Oreshnik" proved too fast and complex to intercept

The expert explained why domestic hypersonic missiles remain out of reach for air defense systems

Russian hypersonic missiles "Kinzhal", "Zircon" and "Oreshnik" successfully hit targets due to absolute superiority in speed and maneuverability. This opinion was expressed by Nikolay Gaponenko, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Security at the Institute of Law and National Security of RANEPA.

According to the expert, modern anti-aircraft missile systems have virtually no chance of successfully intercepting these munitions.

The fundamental superiority of offensive characteristics over defense prevails: the speed and maneuverability of these missiles effectively leave existing air defense systems no chance of successful interception.

Gaponenko noted that Russian missiles fly faster than interceptors, and their trajectory makes interception extremely difficult. Such a target can be shot down, but in most cases, it happens by chance. In addition, due to the acute shortage of anti-aircraft missiles, any launch for the defending side becomes too expensive and risky.

Gaponenko added that talks about "saving" ammunition most often mask the real technical helplessness against new Russian missiles.
