Beloyarsk NPP Completes Largest BN-800 Unit Modernization Five Years Ahead of Schedule

The plant is back at full capacity and will provide an additional 82 million kWh of electricity generation

Power unit No. 4 of the Beloyarsk NPP has reached full capacity ahead of schedule after scheduled repairs and large-scale equipment modernization. The work was completed five days ahead of schedule, and on May 23, the BN-800 reactor was brought to 100% capacity by plant specialists and contractors.

Over two months, the unit underwent nuclear fuel reloading, repair, and maintenance of key systems. This shutdown was the largest in terms of equipment renewal in the last five years. According to plant specialists, shortening the repair time will allow for an additional generation of over 82 million kWh of electricity.

Alexander Belov, Deputy Chief Engineer for Repair, noted that the early completion was a result of precise planning and coordinated work of all participants in the campaign. The main scope of work was performed without compromising quality and in compliance with safety requirements.

Power unit No. 4 with the BN-800 reactor is considered the flagship of Russian nuclear energy in the direction of fast sodium reactors. The modernization carried out should increase the reliability of the equipment and the stability of the unit's operation in subsequent fuel campaigns.
