ChatGPT is being disabled in Russia: Experts advise switching to domestic AI

Users are recommended to migrate to platforms like GigaChat and YandexGPT in advance

Russian users and businesses need to prepare for a systematic rejection of foreign AI services, including OpenAI and Anthropic. This was reported to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" by experts from K2 NeuroTech, noting that major providers are tightening restrictions for the Russian audience.

According to experts, the nature of restrictions has changed significantly in recent months. If previously companies faced direct unavailability of services, now providers are applying proactive measures: KYC verification with a passport, selfie verification, targeted IP blocking, and account deactivation based on behavioral patterns. Reports of such blockages have become widespread.

Vyacheslav Degtyarev, Head of Product Solutions Development at K2 NeuroTech, noted that for companies, this threatens a sudden loss of access to critical processes and creates uncertainty regarding the processing of sensitive data abroad. He recommends that businesses start building a migration strategy to domestic solutions now — YandexGPT, Yandex AI Studio, GigaChat, and others.

According to K2 NeuroTech, Russian AI platforms have already reached a level that allows them to cover most of the business's applied tasks: from generating texts and code to embedding AI into digital products. With a comparable level of service, they offer more predictable costs and a clear legal model for working with data.

For large companies, a logical step is to switch to on-premises solutions based on domestic models. This provides control over infrastructure and data, reduces regulatory risks, and replicates the capabilities of Western providers within the company's perimeter. In the context of "AI by passport," experts consider local and on-premises platforms to be the most sustainable strategy for the coming years.
