Some people have faced situations where money continued to be debited from their card after canceling a subscription. Sometimes this happened even after deleting the card from the account. Now the rules are changing. Amendments have been made to consumer protection legislation in Russia, directly affecting online subscriptions and recurring automatic payments.
As reported by Rospotrebnadzor, services are prohibited from using previously saved payment data if the user has officially refused the service. This innovation applies to almost all platforms with online subscriptions. This includes streaming services, mobile applications, cloud storage, and electronic document management systems.
Companies are now obliged to provide users with the opportunity to refuse further debits, including in electronic form. After such a statement, the service will not be able to continue attempts to debit money.
In addition, the user has the right to refuse the service at any time, even after notification of an upcoming payment. If money was still debited after cancellation, the service is obliged to refund the funds in full. The only exception may be the subscription period already actually used.
