Up to 16,000 passengers whose flights are scheduled between May 8 and May 11 may receive insurance payments due to delays, cancellations, and route changes. As reported to TASS by "Alfastrakhovanie" company, policies cover risks of disruptions for any reason, including airspace restrictions.
From May 2 to May 6, digital claims settlement services have already recorded over 3,300 insured events. The most significant increase occurred on May 3: 849 claims compared to 434 the day before. The main events are related to restrictions at airports in Moscow, Sochi, St. Petersburg, and Kaliningrad. Among the largest payouts are two cases for a cancelled flight from Istanbul with compensation of 16,000 rubles each.
The company expects a further increase in claims, as some flights continue to operate with schedule changes, postponements, and cancellations. May flight restrictions in the southern direction are becoming a regular factor, and the insurance mechanism is transforming from an additional option into a mandatory element of protection against air travel disruptions.
