The Scientific and Production Association "Granit" has patented an onboard repeater for unmanned aerial vehicles. The device is designed to increase radio communication range and can be placed directly on the drone. The developers managed to simplify the repeater's design and simultaneously expand its capabilities, according to a publication in the Rospatent database.
The secret of the novelty lies in smart electronics. The repeater catches the signal, amplifies it, and transmits it further, operating in the VHF band. At the same time, reception and transmission occur on different frequencies to avoid interference. An embedded computing module controls the process. The operator can connect to the device via a display and keyboard – to enter keys, update the program, or check the system status. An Ethernet connector is also provided.
The repeater has two power sources: its own battery and the drone's onboard network. If the personal battery runs out or fails, the smart electronics will instantly switch to power from the drone. The standard voltage converter will bring it to the required values. As a result, the repeater will not shut down at the most critical moment.
For navigation, the device uses a satellite system with its own antenna – so it always knows its coordinates.
