Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs allows duplicating names in driver's licenses according to foreign passports and adding medical restriction codes

Transliteration will eliminate discrepancies, and MC, AT, APS, and GCL tags will indicate driving eligibility

Driver's licenses now allow the transliteration of the owner's name according to their foreign passport, and medical restrictions are now coded with letter tags. As reported by TASS in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the innovations are already in effect and apply to both the issuance of new licenses and the replacement of old ones.

By default, record duplication is carried out according to standard transliteration, but at the driver's request, letters can be transferred from a valid foreign passport or foreign driver's license. This eliminates discrepancies that motorists faced when renting cars abroad.

Section 14 of the license now includes coded restrictions: MC – manual control only, AT – automatic transmission, APS – mandatory acoustic parking system, GCL – vision correction, HA/CF – hearing loss compensation.

Additionally, section 12 may include an ML mark if the driver has medical contraindications to driving category M vehicles. Failure to comply with these restrictions entails administrative liability.
