The Russian government has approved a plan to increase electronic ticket sales for commuter trains. As TASS learned from the document, the implementation of the concept for the development of railway passenger transportation until 2035 aims to increase the sale of travel documents in digital form by 75% compared to 2025 levels. At the same time, at least 50% of tickets will be issued as a single transport document.
The technological foundation for such a leap is already being laid. The government plans to update rolling stock and introduce digital services. Simultaneously, Moscow is gradually launching biometric payment for ground transport, which may later be scaled to other regions. According to Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov, specialists are working on various scenarios for using the service to ensure passengers receive a high level of service.
In 2025, 1.184 billion passengers were transported by commuter trains in Russia. This ambitious goal means that within six years, the digital sales channel should become dominant, practically phasing out paper forms. For passengers, this means a significant reduction in ticket processing time, and for the transport system, it means transitioning to route planning based on real-time passenger traffic. Here are a few options for headlines and subheadings, reworked with an emphasis on the technological component.
