Scammers use Victory Day as a cover: veterans defrauded under the guise of holiday payments

Attackers impersonate employees of social protection, the Ministry of Labor, and the Social Fund

Ahead of Victory Day, scammers have intensified their schemes to defraud veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Attackers impersonate employees of the Social Fund, the Ministry of Labor, or social protection agencies and, under the pretext of holiday payments, try to obtain bank card details.

This was reported by the Committee of Families of Fatherland Warriors. They noted that fraudsters exploit trust in state structures and the emotional attachment to the holiday.

In one scheme, veterans receive calls informing them of supposedly due additional payments or compensations. During the conversation, the attackers ask for card details, SMS codes, or other personal data.

In addition, a scheme involving "medal presentation" is being circulated. In this case, a person is sent a link, clicking on which can lead to the leakage of personal information.

The committee reminded that genuine Victory Day payments are processed automatically and do not require the transfer of confirmation codes, card details, or clicking on links. Money is transferred through a bank, to a veteran's card, or through post offices.

Representatives of the organization urged Russians to warn elderly relatives about such schemes and reminded that state agency employees do not request confidential data over the phone.
