US reports Russian space weapon with separable satellites

General Stephen Whiting: "Matryoshka" scheme development capable of striking satellites

Russia has launched vehicles into orbit that can function as a platform for small maneuvering satellites. This was stated by the head of the US Space Command, General Stephen Whiting.

According to him, these are systems with a separable architecture. The main spacecraft, after reaching orbit, can release additional objects capable of operating independently and approaching other satellites.

This scheme is unofficially called "matryoshka." One carrier delivers a group of subsatellites, which then perform separate tasks in orbit.

It is clear that Russia has deployed a space weapon and put it into orbit from which it can strike critical satellites.

The US links these developments to the "Nivelir" program, within which maneuvers of approaching and separating objects in space were previously observed.

Analysts from "Russkoye Oruzhie" noted that such systems can be used for satellite inspection, electronic warfare, or jamming.

Secrecy is considered a key factor. Visually, the device may appear as an ordinary satellite until activated.

Visually, it looks like a passive device, but at any moment it can switch to kinetic strike or jamming mode.

Military experts from the channel added that the system's operating principle boils down to ensuring a guaranteed element of surprise.
