Titanium instead of steel: unique equipment for Akkuyu NPP shipped to Turkey

"Vest-Engineering" manufactured I&C stands with increased corrosion resistance for the first power unit of the plant

Unique titanium alloy instrumentation and control stands have been handed over to the customer for power unit No. 1 of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey. The delivery was carried out by the Russian engineering company "Vest-Engineering".

This refers to two types of equipment: a stand for two differential pressure sensors with bottom connection and a stand for one similar sensor. Both products belong to the second and third safety classes. Their task is to accommodate primary transducers and local pressure monitoring devices in the technological monitoring systems of the nuclear power plant.

The main technical feature of the project is the use of titanium alloy in the stand design. In the nuclear industry, stainless steel remains the de facto standard, but titanium offers a qualitatively different level of characteristics: it is significantly more resistant to corrosion, more durable, and more reliable in extreme operating conditions.

The supply of I&C stands was another stage of the Russian company's participation in the construction of the Akkuyu NPP. Earlier, equipment for the fire protection control and management system had already been shipped to the first power unit. The project is being implemented within the framework of an international contract, and work continues.
