Preparation for comprehensive testing of the "Digital Railway Station" project has begun at the Chelyabinsk-Glavny sorting station. Artificial intelligence systems for route planning, robotic wagon uncoupling, and machine vision complexes that diagnose locomotives and rolling stock directly during movement are already operating at the site.
The project is being implemented by RZD jointly with NIIAS. Currently, 19 out of 24 developed technical solutions are undergoing verification in controlled operation mode. Data is automatically fed into the station's digital twin – without manual input. Information is transmitted directly from unmanned locomotives and infrastructure monitoring systems.
The company expects that the introduction of digital technologies will reduce train downtime, increase the processing capacity of sorting stations, and improve the efficiency of personnel and equipment.
RZD also reported that the main elements of the project will begin to be scaled to other large sorting stations on the network.
