NES "Akademik Fedorov" returned to St. Petersburg after expedition to Antarctica

Scientists spent 6 months in the southern latitudes

The crew of the scientific expedition vessel (NES) "Akademik Fedorov", which wintered in Antarctica, returned to St. Petersburg. Over 6 months, the vessel covered 34,600 nautical miles, as reported by the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI).

During the seasonal work, NES "Akademik Fedorov" visited the Russian stations Progress, Mirny, Novolazarevskaya, the field base Molodyozhnaya, and the Gora Vechernyaya station of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition.

Scientists also conducted marine scientific research in the Southern Ocean along the vessel's route.

NES "Akademik Fedorov"

The vessel was built in 1987 at the Rauma shipyard in Finland. "Akademik Fedorov" has been repeatedly involved in polar expeditions, including the study of the geological structure of the Laptev Sea and the East Siberian Sea.
