The "Max" messenger received a "spyware" label from one of the largest hosting providers, Cloudflare, but this status was later removed. According to Cloudflare Radar, the mark disappeared shortly after users noticed it on April 30.
The development company explained the situation as a technical error. According to them, the classification as spyware arose due to an incorrect interpretation of request headers related to ordinary web analytics of the max.ru website, and not based on an analysis of the application's code.
"Max" also emphasized that all user data is reliably protected, and the service itself regularly undergoes security audits. At the same time, the domain continued to operate with a valid TLS certificate, and the application did not disappear from the App Store and Google Play.
Earlier, Cloudflare assigned a similar label to an alternative Telegram client - Telega. In that case, the situation led to more serious consequences: the application's security certificate was revoked, and then it was removed from the App Store.
Experts note that such statuses can affect the development of services, especially when entering international markets. They can restrict access to infrastructure and cause additional checks by large platforms, even if they are not formally a reason for deleting the application.
"Max" is a multifunctional messenger developed by VK. In addition to communication, it supports calls, transfers, and is also used to confirm age and benefits. In terms of functionality, the service is compared to Chinese WeChat.
In April 2026, the application was renamed to "MAX" - according to the developers, the name reflects the "maximum" capabilities of the service. Future updates plan to expand functionality, including comments, polls, and stories.
In parallel, the service is already actively being introduced in retail: according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, age verification through "MAX" is available in more than 100 thousand retail outlets across the country.
