Kazakhstan continues the project to replace the turbine at TPP-2 in Astana, but the production of key components is now planned to be moved to China. The casing parts of the power unit will be built according to the documentation of the Leningrad Metal Plant, said Oleg Garmonshchikov, Deputy Chairman for Production at "Astana-Energiya" company.
According to him, the supplier has already been identified. Currently, the parties are discussing the terms of manufacturing and delivery of equipment.
The Energy Department, together with our personnel, traveled to China, visited three plants, and most likely, this issue will be resolved positively, and the casing parts for the turbine will be supplied from there.
It should be noted that this is not about a new development, but about reproducing an existing design based on archival documentation.
Earlier, Kazakhstan refused to purchase Russian turbines and generators for the third power unit of GRES-2 and reoriented to Chinese suppliers, saving up to 250 billion tenge. As a result, some of the equipment is currently idle.
