The Ministry of Digital Development is working on a project that will make foreign traffic paid for Russian mobile internet users, Mash reports. It is assumed that the innovations will affect all movements on foreign websites and blocked resources, and scrolling through prohibited social networks may incur charges.
For now, it's only about mobile internet — wired internet is not affected, the channel writes. Reportedly, specific prices are not being named, and the project is still under development.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor restricted access to 439 VPN services and also began more actively blocking additional protocols — SOCKS5, VLESS, and L2TP. As of the end of April, 116 VPN applications are unavailable in the Russian App Store. In addition, the Ministry of Digital Development discussed new rules for IT companies: platforms that do not restrict users' access via VPN may be excluded from the relevant register and the "white list" of websites accessible when the internet is disconnected.
