With the start of the scooter and bicycle rental season, fraudsters have become more active in cities. They paste their stickers over original QR codes, sending users to phishing websites. This was reported by the "Moshelovka" project of the People's Front.
The scheme works simply: a person scans the code, thinking they are renting transport, lands on a fake page, and enters their bank card details. After this, money is debited to the fraudsters.
Most often, active rental users – young people and tourists who are used to quickly scanning codes and not checking details – fall for such tricks.
Experts advise against using third-party websites for rentals and to start a trip only through official service applications. Before scanning, it is also worth checking the QR code itself – whether there are any stickers or signs of tampering over it.
Furthermore, do not enter card details if the site opened after a suspicious redirect – this is one of the main signs of phishing.
