Passage over the Crimean Bridge has been closed to electric vehicles and hybrids

Owners of electric cars are instructed to bypass the crossing via the R-280 Novorossiya highway

The Russian Ministry of Transport has approved regulations for passage over the Crimean Bridge that completely prohibit the movement of electric transport and hybrids. The ban came into force in 2026 and applies to all vehicles with traction battery packs, the ministry's press service reported.

For owners of electric cars and hybrids, a single alternative route has been designated — the R-280 Novorossiya highway.

At the same time, mandatory inspection of all transport, baggage, and passengers remains in force. An exception has been made only for portable equipment: no more than two batteries for electric scooters are allowed to be carried, with dimensions not exceeding 515×225×225 millimeters.

Citizens are advised to clear small items from their trunks in advance and be prepared to open boxes to speed up the procedure.

Earlier, to optimize inspections on the approaches to the crossing, a separate lane was allocated for tourist buses. In March 2026, the construction of a special road for buses carrying children was announced.

The decision regarding electric vehicles was likely dictated by safety considerations; however, the Ministry of Transport is not disclosing the details of the restrictions.
