64 cores and its own system: the Russian Irtysh C664 processor will run on a domestic OS

The chip lineup with 16, 32, and 64 cores will receive specialized software for operation in critically important sectors

In Russia, they are developing integration between hardware and software so that everything works smoothly. A dedicated operating system is being created for the new processor lineup, and it is already nearing the finish line. Hardware manufacturer Tramplin Electronics and system software developer NTC IT ROSA have signed a cooperation agreement.

What exactly is being created

As part of the partnership, NTC IT ROSA is completing development of the ROSA Khrom distribution for the Irtysh processor architecture.

This refers to a production lineup:

  • Irtysh C616 — 16 cores and 32 threads;
  • Irtysh C632 — 32 cores and 64 threads;
  • Irtysh C664 — 64 cores and 128 threads.

The solutions are intended for government agencies, critical infrastructure facilities, and other segments where reliability and performance are especially important.

More about the Russian OS

ROSA Khrom 12 is an operating system for PCs and servers based on the Russian ROSA 2021.1 repository.

It is certified by FSTEC and included in the register of domestic software maintained by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development. All system components undergo compatibility testing, which is intended to improve stability and security.

The companies emphasize that this kind of cooperation is important for creating a full-fledged ecosystem of domestic hardware and software solutions.
