The Hermitage Hid Masterpieces in the Cloud: 350 Terabytes of Painting and Sculpture Received Double Protection

Rostelecom and Turbo Cloud Company Deployed a Backup Archive

The State Hermitage, together with Rostelecom, has completed the creation of a backup of its digitized collection in cloud storage. The total amount of data that is now under double protection has reached 350 terabytes. The storage facility was deployed on the basis of RTK-DC data centers by Turbo Cloud.

The main digital archive of the museum continues to operate on the Hermitage's own servers, but a backup in the cloud is insurance against any risks: human error, man-made failure, or unavailability of the main storage. Digitized canvases by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Titian, records of all stages of restoration of exhibits, and other unique materials were under protection. Digitizing the collection took more than 20 years.

Turbo Cloud specialists have configured a secure channel for transmitting an array of images and automatic weekly backups. The museum has been allocated 0.5 petabytes of disk space - this will be enough for the long term, taking into account new acquisitions. According to Alexei Bogdanov, Deputy General Director of the Hermitage, partnership with a leader in the field of cybersecurity and cloud services is a real working mechanism for preserving cultural heritage.
