Rosreestr will receive Earth images from space

An agreement with Roscosmos will allow tracking changes in the terrain with a resolution of up to 0.5 meters

Rosreestr and Roscosmos have signed an agreement to provide the agency with remote sensing data of the Earth (ERS) from space. The document is aimed at mapping the territory of Russia and developing the National Spatial Data System (NSDS).

As noted in Rosreestr, the agency is gradually moving from receiving data through manned aviation to using satellite images. For a qualitative transition to a new level of cartographic production, Rosreestr, together with Roscosmos, plans to launch a pilot project for automated monitoring of changes in the terrain based on ERS data.

For Russians, this decision means the appearance of more up-to-date and accurate maps, which will be updated faster due to space monitoring. Changes in the terrain — new buildings, roads, field boundaries, coastlines — will be recorded more quickly, which means that cadastral data and urban planning documentation will be more accurate. In the future, this will simplify the registration of real estate, land plots and help to more effectively plan the development of territories.
