Russian engineers have created a device for precise cargo dropping from drones

The new device takes into account the distance between supports and compensates for errors

Russian inventors have patented a device for measuring the mass and coordinates of the center of mass of products. The development is intended for preparing small-sized cargo for use with unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the description of the patent.

The device consists of two supports mounted on load-receiving platforms. The first platform is stationary, the second is mounted on a movable carriage — it can be moved along the body and fixed in the desired position. Each platform is equipped with four weight-measuring strain gauges. Their readings are processed by an analog-to-digital converter and a computing device.

The main advantage is the automatic accounting of the actual distance between the supports and the compensation of strain gauge errors. This increases the accuracy of determining the center of mass of the cargo, which is critical for the stability of the drone and the accuracy of the drop. The development may find application in logistics, agriculture, and the defense sector, where drones are often used to deliver cargo.
