The longest tram diameter in the world launched in Moscow: 33 km of rails through 13 districts

The second T2 line connected the east and south with an interval of six minutes on "Vityaz" and "Lionok" trams

The second tram diameter T2 has started operating in the capital, connecting Novogireevo in the east with Chertanovo in the south. The route is 33 kilometers long, which is an absolute world record among diametrical tram lines, according to the press service of the mayor's office. 51 modern cars of the "Vityaz-Moscow" and "Lionok-Moscow" models produced by PK "Transport Systems" have been put on the line.

The route covers 13 districts with a population of more than two million people and integrates four railway stations into a single network — Yaroslavsky, Leningradsky, Kazansky and Paveletsky — plus 31 metro stations. Stops are placed every 400 meters, with a total of 79, and a full circle along the diameter takes 140 minutes. On the central ten-kilometer section, where T2 duplicates the first diameter T1, trams will run with a frequency of every three minutes.

The launch of the second line became possible thanks to the completion of a connecting branch on Academician Sakharov Avenue, which closed the disparate tracks into a through transport corridor. For the city, this is not just an extension of the route, but the creation of a backbone infrastructure that unloads the ring and radial metro lines in the southeast direction. The focus on high-capacity electric transport instead of buses reduces road wear and emissions in the center.
