If a cosmonaut accidentally becomes detached from the station in outer space, he may have a chance to return. A prototype system has been created in Russia that can help in such a situation. The development is being carried out by scientists from Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
The system consists of a cylinder with compressed air and four nozzles located at right angles to each other. When gas is supplied, some nozzles spin the platform clockwise, others counterclockwise. This allows you to set the movement, slow it down, and also accelerate or dampen the rotation.
In addition, a robot inspector can be created based on this system. It will be able to remotely inspect the outer surface of the station and photograph it without a person going into outer space.
So far, the device exists in the form of an experimental stand on which the principles of motion control are being worked out.
The development was presented as part of Space Week in Russia. The university also spoke about other projects: an artificial sunlight emitter for disinfecting the station and an installation for sintering lunar regolith into blocks that can be used to build landing sites on the Moon.
