Voronezh Plant Supplied Transformers for New 2ES9 Electric Locomotive

The equipment passed tests and was sent to NEVZ for assembly of a prototype locomotive

The "Voronezh Transformer" plant has shipped traction transformers for the first prototype of the 2ES9 electric locomotive. The equipment was accepted jointly by specialists from the enterprise, the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, and Russian Railways. All technical parameters were confirmed in full.

The new transformers are designed specifically for the two-section AC locomotive. They will help increase the power and traction characteristics of the machine, reduce energy consumption, and simplify maintenance compared to previous models.

The 2ES9 prototype is currently being prepared for release at NEVZ. 445 million rubles have already been allocated for the preparation of the new product's production. The electric locomotive is being created according to the technical specifications of Russian Railways for operation on the Eastern Polygon. It will be able to haul trains weighing 7100 tons at speeds up to 120 km/h. The key difference is the asynchronous traction drive, which will provide an increase in per-section power relative to the current ES5K "Ermak" platform.

It was reported the day before that the Krasnoyarsk Railway accepted a new batch of freight electric locomotives. 15 machines of the 3ES5K "Ermak" model have been added to the park of the Russian Railways branch.
