The Kalashnikov Concern has increased the production of the latest shortened Kalashnikov AK-12K assault rifles chambered for 5.45x39 mm under a state contract for 2026. The small arms are in demand among the military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces.
Its production volumes in the first quarter of the year increased by 15% compared to the 2025 plan. The first batch was shipped to the customer in February 2026.
Alan Lushnikov, CEO of Kalashnikov, stated that the site where the AK-12K is assembled operates around the clock. The concern fulfills its obligations on time, he emphasized.
The shortened version of the AK-12 was developed by the concern's engineers in the 2010s. Subsequently, it was adapted to the conditions of modern combat. Taking into account the needs of the army, the AK-12K was promptly put into series production. The first batch of modernized compact assault rifles was delivered to the troops in 2025.
The AK-12K features improved technical and operational characteristics. Despite its reduced dimensions, the new version retains the capabilities of the basic AK-12.
