Rooppur NPP Sets Record for Pipeline Flushing

Experts completed an important stage before fuel loading and physical start-up of the reactor in 81 hours

At the first power unit of the Rooppur NPP, specialists completed flushing the pipelines of the primary circuit with boric acid solution. The entire operation took 81 hours, which became a record for the entire project. This is a key step before the physical start-up of the station and the loading of nuclear fuel into the core.

The team accelerated the process through clear organization and professionalism. Engineers systematically prepared the equipment for flushing. Previously, they had audited the units, checked the condition of the metal on the reactor vessel and steam generators. Employees also inspected pipelines and safety systems.

Before starting work, simulators of fuel assemblies were unloaded from the reactor. Specialists diagnosed in-core devices and control systems. All this made it possible to proceed with cleaning the circuit without delays. Another important condition was the coherence of actions of all participants. Now the power unit is ready for the next procedures that are needed before reaching power.

As a reminder, earlier at the construction site of the Rooppur nuclear power plant, workers moved to the final stage of equipping the cooling towers. Specialists installed internal elements that are responsible for heat exchange. The structure includes special plastic blocks called irrigators and curved panels that act as droplet traps.
