"Geran" drones changed their purpose and began dropping "Knockout" mines

The drone is capable of presenting a "surprise" even in the deep rear

Russian "Geran" strike drones have for the first time become carriers of cluster mines. Footage of the new warhead of the drones has appeared online.

The mines are placed in round containers under the wings. In total, one "Geran" can drop eight such mines.

We are talking about KPTM-3 cassettes, which are stuffed with PTM-3 anti-tank mines, known as "Knockout". They were developed in 1985. After a heavy vehicle runs over it, a magnetic sensor is triggered, and a shaped charge jet pierces the bottom.

According to information from open sources, if within 24 hours after being put into readiness, the PTM-3 mine does not detonate, then it has a self-destruction mechanism.

Alexander Stepanov, a scientist at the Institute of Law and National Security of the RANEPA, noted that "Gerans" can carry R-74M2 missiles from the Su-57 fighter. If this becomes possible, then the drones will become a real threat not only to ground targets, but also to aircraft.

According to preliminary estimates, in Russia the monthly production of "Geran-2" drones has reached a stable level of 6500–7500 units.
