The Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexey Likhachev, announced the deterioration of the situation at the Iranian Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. On the evening of March 27, ammunition exploded for the third time in the immediate vicinity of the pumping station, which provides water supply to the reactor equipment.
It is not difficult to guess that this creates a direct threat to nuclear safety. Fortunately, there are no casualties.
Previous strikes on the site of the operating power unit No. 1 were recorded on March 17 and 28. In both cases, the shells exploded near the critical infrastructure of the station.
Against the background of the escalation, Rosatom began a large-scale evacuation of employees. More than 400 people have already been taken off the site. 164 specialists, including citizens of Belarus, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, were delivered to Moscow via Armenia by a special flight. About 320 people remain at the station.
Likhachev stressed that the attacks on the infrastructure of the nuclear power plant demonstrate that the safety of Bushehr has ceased to be a "red line" for the participants in the conflict. The IAEA warned of a high risk of a major radiological accident if the strikes continue. Russia calls on the United States and Israel to exclude strikes on nuclear power plants, said the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.
