Elon Musk Appreciated the Theory of Soviet Astrophysicist Kardashev About the Future of Humans

The response to the complex concept turned out to be unexpectedly simple

Elon Musk commented on the theory of the development of civilizations proposed by Soviet astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev. In response to a discussion in X, the businessman limited himself to a short reaction — "Cute."

We are talking about the Kardashev scale — a model that appeared back in 1964. It divides civilizations into three types depending on how much energy they can use. This theory is still one of the most famous attempts to describe the technological development of intelligent beings.

The first type is a civilization that completely controls and uses the resources of its planet. The second reaches the level of a star and can control its energy. The third masters the scale of the galaxy.

According to this scale, humanity has not yet reached even the first level. We use only part of the energy available on Earth and remain in an intermediate stage of development.

Interest in the theory resurfaced against the backdrop of discussions about the future of technology and the possible transition to higher levels of development. Musk's comment was a reaction to the assumption that civilization may have already approached the next stage — however, according to the classical Kardashev model, it is still far away.
