Firing at nuclear energy facilities grossly violates the rules and principles of international security, said the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, after the shelling of the territory of the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant.
We strongly condemn the incident and call on the parties to the conflict to make every effort to de-escalate the situation in the area of the Bushehr NPP.
The shelling of the station occurred on Tuesday at about 19:00 local time: this is the first recorded strike on the territory of the nuclear power plant since the beginning of hostilities in Iran. 480 Rosatom employees continue to work at the nuclear power plant, there are no casualties. The radiation situation on the site is normal.
Earlier, on March 13, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington did not intend to attack Iranian nuclear facilities.
The first power unit of the Bushehr NPP with a capacity of 1000 MW was transferred to the Iranian customer in 2013. In 2016, the construction of the second stage began - two blocks with a total capacity of 2.1 thousand MW.
