Despite the course towards import substitution, most Russian organizations continue to use foreign backup systems (BRS). These are the conclusions reached by the authors of a study by K2Tech, who analyzed procurement requests and surveyed 310 companies from fintech, retail, IT, and the oil and gas industry, Vedomosti reports.
BRS are necessary to create data copies with the possibility of recovery in case of damage or loss. This is a mandatory component of the IT infrastructure, enshrined in the requirements of the FSTEC.
According to the results, 32% of organizations use products from the American vendor Veeam, 18% use Veritas software, and another 16% are shared between the American Commvault and the Russian Cyberbackup. About 8% is accounted for by Dell EMC Networker, another 7% by IBM TSM, Acronis, HPE, Rubackup and others. The share of fully cloud-based backups is still minimal - only 3%.
Sergey Stetsyuk, head of the K2Tech department, explained that many companies use a mixed model: foreign BRS for critical tasks, Russian analogues (Cyberbackup, Rubackup) for the rest. Approximately 20% of organizations use several solutions simultaneously.
The total market for backup software in Russia is estimated at 10.4 billion rubles last year. According to Kontur.Procurement, the public sector placed 535 purchases worth 16.39 billion rubles in 2025 - an increase in both quantity and volume compared to 2024.
